German CO2 emission classes come into force

As you already know, the European Commission has amended the existing legislation on CO2 performance standards for certain heavy vehicle categories in the European Union.

The first country to introduce these new emission classes is Germany.

Thus, starting from December 1, all vehicles over 3.5 tons will be classified in one of the 5 CO2 tax classes, numbered from 1 to 5. All vehicles registered before July 1, 2019 are automatically assigned to class 1 .

The CO2 charging system in Germany will be followed by the one in Austria (from January 2024) and the new rates applied to road taxes will be published soon.

With the help of a DKV Mobility app, accessible by clicking the button next to it, you can check your company’s vehicles and their assigned CO2 classes.

Important to know: If the CO2 class allocation is not made by December 1, the vehicle will automatically be assigned to class 1.
